As of the end of 2006, approximately 5,600 acres or 22.6% of Washington has become permanently protected open space. In addition, about 4,577 acres of forestland, plus 2,905 acres of farmland (7,482 acres) or 30% of Town are temporarily protected under PA 490.
"Open space" is defined as "land permanently preserved for agriculture, forestry, recreation, wildlife habitat, natural resources conservation, maintenance of community character or as undeveloped land."(Open Space Plan 2002 & TPOCD 2003 p. 3-5)) The Town goal is to permanently protect 30% by 2015.

As of the end of 2006, approximately 5,600 acres or 22.6% of Washington has become permanently protected open space. In addition, about 4,577 acres of forestland, plus 2,905 acres of farmland (7,482 acres) or 30% of Town are temporarily protected under PA 490.
"Open space" is defined as "land permanently preserved for agriculture, forestry, recreation, wildlife habitat, natural resources conservation, maintenance of community character or as undeveloped land."(Open Space Plan 2002 & TPOCD 2003 p. 3-5)) The Town goal is to permanently protect 30% by 2015.

"Open space" is defined as "land permanently preserved for agriculture, forestry, recreation, wildlife habitat, natural resources conservation, maintenance of community character or as undeveloped land."(Open Space Plan 2002 & TPOCD 2003 p. 3-5)) The Town goal is to permanently protect 30% by 2015.

As of the end of 2006, approximately 5,600 acres or 22.6% of Washington has become permanently protected open space. In addition, about 4,577 acres of forestland, plus 2,905 acres of farmland (7,482 acres) or 30% of Town are temporarily protected under PA 490.
"Open space" is defined as "land permanently preserved for agriculture, forestry, recreation, wildlife habitat, natural resources conservation, maintenance of community character or as undeveloped land."(Open Space Plan 2002 & TPOCD 2003 p. 3-5)) The Town goal is to permanently protect 30% by 2015.

As of the end of 2006, approximately 5,600 acres or 22.6% of Washington has become permanently protected open space. In addition, about 4,577 acres of forestland, plus 2,905 acres of farmland (7,482 acres) or 30% of Town are temporarily protected under PA 490.
"Open space" is defined as "land permanently preserved for agriculture, forestry, recreation, wildlife habitat, natural resources conservation, maintenance of community character or as undeveloped land."(Open Space Plan 2002 & TPOCD 2003 p. 3-5)) The Town goal is to permanently protect 30% by 2015.

"Open space" is defined as "land permanently preserved for agriculture, forestry, recreation, wildlife habitat, natural resources conservation, maintenance of community character or as undeveloped land."(Open Space Plan 2002 & TPOCD 2003 p. 3-5)) The Town goal is to permanently protect 30% by 2015.

As of the end of 2006, approximately 5,600 acres or 22.6% of Washington has become permanently protected open space. In addition, about 4,577 acres of forestland, plus 2,905 acres of farmland (7,482 acres) or 30% of Town are temporarily protected under PA 490.
"Open space" is defined as "land permanently preserved for agriculture, forestry, recreation, wildlife habitat, natural resources conservation, maintenance of community character or as undeveloped land."(Open Space Plan 2002 & TPOCD 2003 p. 3-5)) The Town goal is to permanently protect 30% by 2015.

Resolution approved to amend the Town Ordinance "Tax Relief Program for Elderly and Disabled Homeowners" by deleting the amount of "$36,900" as the total income allowable for applicants and adding "An amount recommended from time to time by the tax assessor and approved by the Boards of Finance and Selectmen of the Town of Washington." PRESS RELEASEPosted: March 9, 2007 The Town of Washington announces that Verizon Wireless will fly a balloon at each of the proposed cell site locations in New Preston on Saturday March 17, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. If weather conditions are unfavorable, the balloons will be flown on Sunday, March 18th.
Citizens are invited to view the balloons at 167 New Milford Turnpike and 16 Mountain Road, New Preston. Verizon plans to submit an application to the CT Siting Council on March 22nd. Public comment to the Conservation Commission will be received until March 20th at Bryan Memorial Town Hall, 2 Bryan Plaza, Washington Depot, CT 06794 or (conservation@washingtonct.org).

News ReleasePosted: January 26, 2007 The Washington Grand List for 2006 has been filed with the Town Clerk and shows an increase of 1.7 % over the previous year. The new total is $966,752,170., which is $16,442,840. more than the 2005 Grand list. At 12 mills, this would generate an additional $197,314. in taxes.
While new construction has continued at its normal (for Washington) pace, the values must be set using the 2003 schedule until the next revaluation which should be in 2008. Along with that fact, some properties have been razed in preparation for new construction. There may have been no building on October 1st, assessment date and the assessment would reflect that.
The bulk of the increase is in real estate- $15,091,470. with the balance $941,920 in motor vehicles, $409,450. in business personal property.
Property owners, whose property may have increased in value this past year due to some sort of new construction, will receive a notice in the next few weeks. The Board of Assessment Appeals will meet during March to hear any appeals of these assessments. Community Forum on Region 12 Elementary SchoolsPosted: January 18, 2007 The Board of Selectmen will host a public forum regarding Region 12 Elementary Schools at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, January 24th in Bryan Memorial Town Hall. School Board members from the Town of Washington will discuss progress toward solving school facility issues. Descriptions of the "Build to Suit" option to maintain local schools and a regional Elementary School at a Roxbury site will be discussed.
The purpose of this forum is to present the latest facts and information from Washington school board members. It will be an open dialogue for Washington residents about options to solve the schools impasse.
