REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
All programs must be paid for in advance through the Parks and Recreation Office. Registrations for programs with limited numbers of participants will be taken on a first come first serve basis. Forms are available outside the Rec office and on the web site www.washingtonct.org. Registrations accepted by mail or in person. Call 868-1519 for more information. Make checks payable to Washington Parks & Recreation.
REFUNDS:
Participants will receive a full refund if the Parks & Recreation Department cancels a program. Participants will receive a 75% refund prior to the beginning of a program, and NO refund once a program has begun.

ACE BASEBALL CAMP

Designed for players who played the regular season youth schedule and plan on continuing to play on summer All-Star/Tournament teams. Teams to be created on first day of camp. Team practice 9:00 am – 11:00 am; daily scrimmage from 11:00 am – 1:00pm

SOFTBALL CAMP
June 25-29
Location: Dick Ayer Field at River Walk Park
Ages 8 - 12
Time: 3:00pm-6:00pm
$130.00 week
Campers will learn softball strategy and the fundamentals of throwing, catching, fielding, batting and base running. The week will wrap up with a mini softball game. Please bring a bat and glove.

SUMMER SWIM TEAM

All tri-town youths between the ages of 5-16 are invited to participate!
Please note, swimmer must be able to swim unassisted one length of pool
Practices are held Monday - Thursday
Meet dates, times & locations will be announced at first practice.

JULY

In response to your requests, Washington Parks & Recreation has lengthened our Summer Rec Camp day from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm; and added optional 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm afternoon camps for grades 1-5 for your all day needs (sorry, younger children cannot be accommodated in the afternoon camps).
Your children will be fed lunch (that you provide) and then begin the afternoon camp that you sign them up for. All camps are held at Shepaug Valley M/H School. Our Summer Rec Camp will still be (2) two-week camps, but each afternoon camp will be a 1 week camp. A La Carte Camp style!
This year we are welcoming a new Camp Director Brian McCauley and PreK/K Camp Director Addie Avery. We’re looking forward to a fun-filled summer camp experience for your children!

LEGO CAMP
At Play-Well TEKnologies we strive to: Build problem-solving skills; provide an opportunity for creative expression; Foster a greater appreciation of how things work; encourage the qualities of inquisitiveness, self-reliance, and self-confidence in children; we do this in the context of fun-filled engineering and architectural projects, activities that both the children and the instructors enjoy!

Pre-Engineering -- 1st and 2nd Grade
Create, Play, and Learn. Build a town, city, or star base with houses, buildings, pyramids, bridges, tunnels, towers, and more. Build motorized cars, trains, buses, and trucks; race them; crash them; repair them. Explore the many possibilities of LEGO® building systems while learning useful construction techniques.
Engineering FUNdamentals – 3rd, 4th and 5th Grades
Design and build motorized machines, catapults, pyramids demolition derby cars, truss and suspension bridges, buildings, and other constructions. Explore concepts in physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and architecture while playing with your favorite creations. This is a hands-on and minds-on class suitable for LEGO® building system novices to "maniacs." Returning students will work on new projects and challenges.

July 9th – 13th 2012
SUMMER ART CAMP
Explore a different artist each day like Van Gogh and Monet, and then create a project in his/her style. Every day kids will learn how to see and draw by simple demos by the artist Marisabel Artieda. This art camp will include fun art games and on the last day will proudly take home a journal made of all their art work and some other art projects like painting on rocks. As Peter Max said, “Don’t worry about mistakes. Making things out of mistakes, that is creativity.” The art camp will provide the materials so make sure your kids bring their snack and also put on your kids sun screen and bug spray.

MULTI SPORT CAMP

Campers will receive technical instruction in each sport and will then experience the sport in a realistic game situation. The Multi Sport program is the only summer camp program dedicated to the truly sports minded youngster. Grades 1-5 Fee: $109.00

“HOW COOL IS THAT?!” (Hands-On Science)
Offering inquiry-based, age-appropriate, messy yet educational science activities for children. Messy meaning that kids will not be glued to their chairs doing worksheets. These are hands-on classes and children will be active participants in their learning, not passive observers.
Velya Jancz-Urban, former Connecticut high school English/History teacher and Region 12 Gifted/Enrichment teacher encourages her students, “don’t just think outside the box, let’s totally avoid the box!”

The Sport Squirts program is a great way to introduce children aged 3 to 5 to a variety of sports such as Soccer, T-ball, Basketball and Hockey all taking place in a safe structured environment to ensure learning. Activities are designed to evoke a child’s imagination in which they can Find Nemo, send Shrek into a spin or capture Jellyfish with Sponge Bob Square Pants. All activities promote hand-eye coordination, movement and balance and most importantly Fun, Fun, Fun.

QIGONG
Qigong (pronounced “chee gung”) is a form of movement and mindful breathing rooted in Chinese Medicine, martial arts, and ancient Chinese philosophy. Used for thousands of years in China as a way to prevent illness and heal the body, Qigong encourages energy to flow smoothly through the body to release blockages, gently stretch muscles and tendons, and develop inner strength. Exercises may be done sitting, standing, or lying down and are easily adapted to individual abilities or needs. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Flat-soled shoes or bare feet recommended.

STEPHEN REICH 5K FREEDOM RUN
The 5K-run/walk race for Washington Residents and their guests, begins at the horse ring in Steep Rock. There will be two water stations. Trophies will be awarded.

Same day registration begins at 8:30 am. Race starts at 9:00 am.

WASHINGTON TOWN BEACH
Available to all residents and taxpayers of the Town of Washington. Membership includes use of picnic area and swim area.
The Beach opens Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, May 26 for weekends only.
Opens for the season (7 days a week) on Tuesday, June 19 through Labor Day, September 3.
Hours: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Fee: $20.00 for the season
Permit available for purchase at the beach.
